I heard tapping on my window. I looked over and smiled when I saw brown eyes staring back at me. I opened the window and said, "Jack, you know you aren't supposed to climb to my window. You could just use the front door."
He chuckled, "but climbing into your window is half the fun." I moved over and he climbed into my room. "You know, it's almost winter." He said with a huge grin.
I laughed, "I know Jack... you just can't wait can you?"
"Nope." He replied, keeping the grin on his face. "Let's go outside."
"But-" I started.
"No buts, your coming outside with me." He said and I laughed as he dragged me downstairs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"(Random human name), let's go for a walk." Jack said and grabbed my arm. It was winter now, and it was snowing.
"Jack, you know how cold it is." You said slowly, as your (e/c) eyes looked into his brown eyes.
"Come on (random human name) lighten up!" He shouted. I rolled my eyes and walked with him towards the woods. "Besides, I want to show you something." He led me to a lake that was frozen over.
I gasped, "It's beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you." He mumbled, not expecting me to hear it.
I did, and I snapped my head towards him, "W-What did you say?"
His eyes widened in shock, his cheeks turned a little red, and he turned his head, "Nothing...."
I smiled and took his hand, and he looked back at me. "You called me beautiful."
"I was just..telling the truth."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been a week since then, and the lake was frozen over enough to skate on. Jack was courting me, he had already asked my mom and dad, but since we were courting, we now needed a chaperone wherever we went. My older brother took care of that. Jack and I had already been skating together on the lake, and it had gotten a little warmer since this morning. That was okay, I knew the ice would hold. He was taking his little sister Pippa ice skating with him, and he would probably get back soon and we would have that snowball fight that we talked about, my little sister, his little sister, and last but not least Jack and I. I waited patiently in my room, lost in thought. All of a sudden my mother burst in the door.
"(Random human name)!" (M/N) yelled.
"What is it mother?" I asked.
"I-It's Jack..." She said slowly.
Alarm hit me. "What about Jack?" I asked. (Just for the record, she- or rather you, are not afraid, you're worried.)
"H-he was on the ice with Pippa, the ice started cracking underneath her. H-he saved her, but he fell in instead. (random human name), Jack's gone." (M/N) told me.
My heart shattered into a million pieces. My mind began to swim with ideas, he's not dead, this is just another one of his pranks...I'll get him for this. "IT'S NOT TRUE!" I screamed and ran out to the lake. I didn't even stop when I heard my mother calling for me. I ran to the ice and saw that there was a huge hole in the middle. I fell to my knees. "It's not true." I whispered. I put my head in my hands and cryed for what felt like hours. I cried until I ran out of tears. "Jack." I whispered over and over. I almost jumped into the hole, but I decided against it. All the pain I'm feeling because of Jack's death, imagine how much pain everyone would feel if I went as well.
A man was watching from the shadows, "I....can't tell what she's afraid of."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a long time after that, and yet I was still numb. I'd been having nightmares, but none of them scared me. I liked to think I was fearless, but I had a suspicioun I just hadn't found my fear yet. I dreamed of a man with dark skin and yellow eyes. He said his name was Pitch, and then he spent the whole night trying to scare me. I've been having dreams like that since Jack died. It was spring now, the middle of spring to be exact. I ran outside and over to the lake, where I saw (Little sister's name) playing with Pippa and a few other friends of hers. Suddenly, I saw Pitch step out of the woods.
"(Random human name)....the boogy man is over there..." Pippa said and all the kids hid behind me. I glanced up, It's only Pitch...in the daylight? Huh. Interesting.
"Calm down all of you, that's only Pitch. He can't hurt you." I said, smiling at them.
Anger flashed in Pitch's eyes. "Is that so?" He asked. He was suddenly behind you and grabbed (sister's name).
All of a sudden, you were even more angry than Pitch. "PUT. MY. SISTER. DOWN."
"No." He said with an arrogant smirk. The kids were frozen staring at Pitch. I walked over to him, and the children moved out of my way.
"I said put her down please." I said with a sickeningly sweet smile.
"Why should I?" He asked, as black horses gather behind him. "What are you going to do about it?" He had hoped you would fear for your sister, but he still felt no fear radiating from you.
"I'm oh so sorry to have to do this," You said, as you punched him in the face. He dropped (sister's name) with a surprised look on his face. You grabbed her and walked up to the kids. As time had gone by with him tormenting your dreams, you had learned how to change a bad dream into a good dream. "Hey guys, why are you afraid? Can't you tell how weak he is? After all, he's just a bad dream, and so are those horses. Don't be afraid of them...dreams aren't real after all." You told them with a smile. You watched as the fear came off their faces. "Follow behind me guys."
"Where do you think you're going?" You heard Pitch asked. You ignored him and stared at the nightmare in front of you before touching it and watching it turn into a good dream. You touch a few more, and they all turn into yellow horses. You quickly lift the kids up on one and tell them to hold on. You tell the horse where to go and it begins to quickly ride towards your house. Right before you climb up on one of the yellow horses, you feel Pitch grab your arm. "Your not going anywhere." He said. You quickly elbow him in the ribs and he lets go of your arm. You ride back to your house and see him glaring at you. You get off the horse and stare at the kids, who are now sitting on the porch.
"Hey, why so glum? Don't tell me you're still afraid." I said, smiling at them.
"No, not since you told me they were just dreams. Thank you (random human name) I'm not afraid of the boogyman anymore." Pippa said and they all nodded.
I smiled, "I'm glad to hear that." Looking at Pippa tore you up inside....she looked just like Jack.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a week later at this point. Pitch had been bothering me in my sleep even more than usual after that day. It was still spring, but it was especially warm today so I was swimming across the lake I used to skate across with Jack. I was wearing a thin dress I had made out of curtains. I began to hold my breath and swim underneath the clear water. All of a sudden my dress caught on something, and I was actually scared for once in my life. I think that the nightmares sensed this and were all of a sudden there. I freed my dress and got back above the water. So that's it. I'm afraid of death.
"It was really that easy. Death. I should've known. That's so strange, because when I read your fear, it said you feared for others." I heard Pitch say.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Go away Pitch. It's not enough to torment me in my sleep?" I then got back to swimming.
He narrowed his eyes and replied, "You are infuriating."
I smiled and laughed at him, "I know...so why don't you just leave me alone?" I began swimming underwater again, and I got caught on something again. This time I was really stuck. I felt the panic well up inside me, but I forced it down. I began tugging at my dress, but it wouldn't come off whatever it was hooked on. My lungs burned, and I needed to breath. I breathed in and my lungs filled with water. Soon after, the whole world went black.
"Where did you go little miss fearless?" Pitch asked. He was surprised when I didn't come up. Did she...die? Pitch felt himself strangely drawn to you. He actually got into the water to look for you, but of course...you didn't know that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the middle of the night on the same day when this happened.
It was dark, and you were slightly cold. You didn't really mind the cold though, all you could focus on was the moon. It was so bright. You didn't see it, but your hair turned into a beautiful shade of red, and your eyes turned green. You felt your self rising up towards the moon, and your dress ripped something out of the water with you. "Your name is (your actual name) Newleaf. I have chosen you to bring Spring to the Earth. You are the spirit of spring. I will watch over you child." A strange sweet voice said.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I am Manny, the man in the moon." It replied.
"Who am I? Why did you choose me?" I asked another question.
"Those are questions you must find the answer to yourself. I'll always be here." Manny told me.
"Wait! I have more questions!" I yelled and felt myself being placed on the ground by the shore. I look down at what I felt on my dress, it was nothing but a shepherdess crook. (Or whatever it's called....it's Jack's thingy..only obviously a different one.) I quickly unhooked it from where it was caught in a hole on my dress. As soon as I touched it a vine wrapped around it and flowers bloomed all over the vine. I stared at it in shock, before logic kicked in, She said I was a spirit of Spring, so this must be mine. I touched the grass with it and before I knew it, there were flowers blooming and grass growing where ever I touched. I was excited when I stared up at the sky. If I'm a spirit of Spring, does that mean I can control the weather too? I concentrated really hard, and it began to rain. I was so excited I began dancing around happily. I couldn't remember being anyone before being ____ Newleaf, but I kept running about until I found a town. I ran into it laughing and stared at everyone. "Excuse me little one but can you tell me where I am?" I asked Pippa. I didn't know it was Pippa of course. She walked right through me. I was shocked, How did she do that? I ran around walking through people before I realized nobody could see, hear, or feel me. It kind of hurt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
300 years later
I walked around where it was supposed to be winter, messing with Jack Frost. Him and I had become friends, after he had already become a guardian and defeated Pitch. I started making it rain, stopping his snow and made flowers bloom in odd places.
"____! I know it's you, stop it!" I heard him yell with a laugh afterwards.
I smirked and flew over to where I heard his voice come from on a cloud. (That's right, apparently you can fly on clouds. You're just that awesome) "Why should I Jack?"
"Because it's WINTER! Not spring!" He said while smiling at you.
I giggled, "But spring is so much prettier."
"Is that a challenge?" He asked with a smirk.
"It might be, what do you bet?" You countered.
"I'll let you make it warmer over here for Christmas." He replied.
I thought about it, I had been trying to get this place warm for Christmas for years, because Christmas is in winter, there aren't many places that are warm for Christmas anymore. This place had a white Christmas every year, and adults were complaining. I liked the snow just as much as anyone, in fact, Jack and I get into huge snowball fights all the time. "It's on. Go ahead and come to Florida once. In a week, I'll come get you, and you better be in this town. Get ready to loose, Jackson Overland Frost."
"Hey! Don't use my whole name." He said and stared at your silver eyes. "Oh and, when I win, I get to make it snow in Florida."
"Deal, and trust me, you'll lose." I said with a smirk and flew off on my cloud. I went over to Jamie's town, a young boy I had always seen Jack playing with, to check on something. Near the town there was this Earth covered place that I had been trying to grow plants on since forever. I was going to try again. Today though, the ground seemed weaker and when I stepped on it, I fell into a hole. It was dark and all of a sudden I saw somebody approaching me. From the way Jack described him, this man looked like Pitch. He told me that I would never meet him, but if I did that I would be scared out of my mind and I would have to get away soon. For some odd reason I wasn't scared, so I stared at him before saying. "Who are you?"
He got a little way into the light, and I could see him better, "I'm Pitch Black, better known as the boogie man, and you, my dear, have just released me from my prison."
"Pitch, I thought that was your name. You're evil from the accounts I've heard, and you WILL be staying down here." I said, lifting my head up in an effort to show strength. I still wasn't afraid.
"I'm not sensing any fear from you, aren't you afraid?" Pitch asked, curious.
"Of course I'm not afraid, you look so weak and you're nothing but a bad dream." I told him confidently.
He stepped back, shocked, "Little miss fearless?"
I stared back at him, confused, "What?"
He stared at me, and recognition hit him, but then slight annoyance, "You don't remember me? After all those times I tormented you? And I thought you were dead."
"I am _____ Newleaf, and as far as I know I have never been anybody but _____ Newleaf. Manny told me so. Now, if you'll excuse me." I said and flew up out of the hole. I tapped the ground and the strongest vines I had ever made covered up the hole. Those would last until at least tomorrow. "Goodbye Pitch." I flew about until I found Jack. "JACK!" I yelled.
"What!" He yelled back.
"Jack you have to come with me!" I told him and flew off towards the hole. After a second he followed and I showed him the hole. I explained to him what happened and he shook his head.
"_____, did you say that you weren't anybody before you were _____ Newleaf?" He asked.
I looked at him shocked, "Does that really matter Jack?"
He sighed as he froze my vines to make them last longer, "It matters more than you think it does, come on we need to go see Tooth and then North."
You didn't question it and just followed him to the Tooth palace. "This is weird." You muttered.
When we got there we went straight to go see Tooth. Jack filled her in on the situation and she nodded and went over to look through the many shelves of teeth. She finally pulled out one box and looked at me. "These are your teeth from when you were a human child." She said.
I stared shocked, "I used to be a human?"
"We all used to be human, touch the box ____ and you'll have your memories." Jack replied. When I touched the box I saw all of my childhood memories, (all the one's you've already read) and I gasped when it was over. "So that's why he called me little miss fearless." I mumbled.
"You knew Pitch?" Jack asked, surprised.
You looked over at him and blushed, "He started tormenting me after you died...."
"Oh well that- wait did you say after I died?" Jack asked, just now processing what I had said.
"Um...yes you and I were....close friends." I replied, still blushing.
"I didn't have many friends my own age, but there was one girl who-" He then stopped and stared at you for a moment.
"S-stop it..." I told him, blushing furiously.
"But she had (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes!" He yelled.
"Well....when I was human...I-I looked like that." I told him.
"Wait you're telling me you were (random human name)?" Jack asked.
"Yes...that was my name when I was a human..." I told him then stopped abrubtly, "Don't we have better things to do like warn North and the other big four that Pitch is gonna get out unless we do something?"
He shook his head. "Yes of course, come on guys." Jack said and flew off to the North Pole with you and tooth behind him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Jack! Who's your friend? She must be a christmas spirit, look at her red hair and green eyes." North said happily.
"North, we have a problem. Call all the other guardians. It's Pitch." Jack told him.
You were introduced to all the guardians as Jack's friend. When North heard your name he stroked his beard, "The spirit of Spring and the Spirit of Winter, getting along?"
"Um...yes we've been friends for a long time...." You said and looked down.
Jack laughed, "A really long time."
North looked at the two of you for a moment before asking, "You said something about Pitch, Jack."
"Yes, let ____ explain it to you." Jack said and everyone looked at me, waiting for me to begin. I told them everything that happened, and a just about word for word conversation between Pitch and I. Then I told them how Pitch and I knew each other.
"Pitch started tormenting me right after Jack died, and a few months later in the middle of spring I had to get Pippa, my sister, and a bunch of their friends away from Pitch. I think he started tormenting me because he was trying to scare me." I finished.
"You knew Jack as human?" North asked, slightly surprised.
I blushed and said, "Um, yes, we knew each other.."
"Hmmm."
"I don't see how that's relevant, Pitch torments everybody to scare them. He feeds off of fear, mate." Bunny commented.
"No, I mean he was trying to scare me and kept going, but he never could. The only time I had ever been scared in my life was when I was drowning. I was scared for my sister, my mom and my dad. I mean, all the pain I felt when Jack died, I didn't want anybody else to feel that pain. That's why he started calling me little miss fearless. He was there the day I died, it was a week after I lightly beat him up, changed his nightmares back into dreams, and ran off with Pippa, my sister and their friends. My swimming dress got caught on something, the first time I got it off, but the second time it got caught on this," I said, gesturing to my staff, "and I couldn't get unstuck. I drowned in the same lake Jack did...ironic huh? I still don't get why Manny made me immortal, but I have a suspicion that he did it on the same day I drowned." I finished.
"Wait, wait wait, did you say that you had to help Pippa, my sister?" Jack asked.
"Well Jack, Pippa was like a sister to me." I replied.
"You say that Pitch could not scare you, tell me, when you saw him today, were you scared of him?" North asked.
"Not in the slightest, he's just a bad dream after all and dreams can't hurt you." I said, then looked at Sandy, "No offense Sandy. I'm well aware dream sand can hurt you, but what could Pitch do?"
"You would be very surprised at what Pitch could do to you if he really wanted to." North told me. All of a sudden, Sandy started shaking an elf. We all looked at him and he pointed at the moon. "It seems Manny wants to talk to us."
The moonlight rained down, and showed a shadow of Pitch. "We have to deal with him again? It was a close enough call the first time!" All of a sudden, a crystal rose out of the floor. Jack chuckled, "It seems everytime we fight Pitch we get another guardian." The moonlight shown down on it, and an image of me came up. Jack gaped at me, "____, Manny wants you to be a guardian." Well...that was unexpected.
